He wants to find St. John, who according to Jesus was to remain alive until His second coming. This book is pure fiction, but it does give an accurate description of the current situation in Ephesus, on the island of Patmos and in the Judean Desert. In Ephesus, Justin comes across a hermit, who doesnt know about the fate of St. John, but does reaffirm his suspicions that the Churchs official version of the story might be a sham. After leaving Ephesus, Justin wanders around the island of Patmos, to further look for St John. He doesnt find him there either, but after a stroke of luck, he does uncover a secret that has been kept safe for nine centuries by the priors of the Monastery of St. John the Theologian. This secret inspires him to go to the areas around Jerusalem and to continue his search in the Judean Desert. After another fortunate twist of events, he finally finds St. John in a cave by the bank of the Prat Stream. In a conversation they have, John reveals to him the role he has yet to play out on Earth.
